The festival's roots can be traced back to the Pretty Hill Film Festival, which took place from 2000-2009 at the Olson family home near Camrose. To celebrate this history, the film chosen by the Nordlys Critics (those who watch at least 7 films during the festival) is bestowed the Pretty Hill Award.
